The first item of software is PlayVideoTS.

PlayVideoTS opens the VIDEO_TS folder of ripped DVDs using the Apple DVD Player. Definitely a simple feature, but it solved the particular annoyance of having to go DVDPlayer.app->File->Open to watch a ripped DVD and perhaps some of you out there have the same itch to scratch.

PlayVideoTS works in either of two ways:

  1. append a .dvdvideo to the directory name, thus transforming the folder into a bundle recognized by PlayVideoTS. From then on you can just double click on it in the Finder to start up the ripped DVD in the Apple DVD Player. Click here: screenshots, to see the change.
  2. drop a folder containing a VIDEO_TS folder onto PlayVideoTS and it will be opened and start playing in the Apple DVD Player

The key thing to note is that the folder being dragged or renamed is the one containing the VIDEO_TS folder. For example, for DVD_VIDEO->VIDEO_TS it would be the DVD_VIDEO folder that would be dragged onto PlayVideoTS or renamed as "DVD_VIDEO.dvdvideo".

To download, click on the icon above and your computer should grab a zipped version of the application. To install, simply drag it into your Applications folder, or put it anywhere else you would like to keep it on your system. To uninstall, move PlayVideoTS to the Trash and empty the Trash.

It should be mentioned that a wonderful application for renaming many files/folders at a time is ABetterFinderRename  from publicspace.net .

If you find that you like the software and it betters your DVD watching experience, feel free to send us a beer.

Cheers!
